Genesis 1:26-27aOften times it seems as if the environmentalist and the Christian are at odds with each other. This is a big frustration for many Christians, I know because I have spoken with them. It is not that Christians are anti-environment. On the contrary, if Christians are honest, they will tell you it is our responsibility to care for the creation. We were created to have dominion over creation. Adam and Eve were caretakers of the Garden. We should be good stewards of all that God has entrusted to us, including creation. We are to govern creation not be governed by it. The problem lies in the fact that the face of the environmental movement seems to place every other aspect of creation above man. They say we must care for the animals and the trees but it is okay to kill an unborn baby! Man is the crown of creation, we are to care for the rest of creation, but we are not secondary to it.
Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him.
Psalm 8-6-8
You have given him dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet, all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field, the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the seas.
So I recycle, I pick up abandoned dogs and take them to the shelter, I don't litter, I conserve energy. I am not a dark shade of green but I do my part. I do not however, place environmentalism above the sanctity of human life. We are to care for crown of creation with as much, if not more diligence.

I really need to do my part in this... I don't even recycle. It's harder to do so in our town, but I know there must be a plant around somewhere! California has put such a liberal spin on the Go Green slogan, it makes me almost embarrased to participate. I also agree that we need to take care of what the Lord has given us... including our environment. So, we don't buy products that we are aware of polluting the air. However, the Lord holds all things in the palm of His hands - including the environment :)
Just my 2 cents.

You are absolutely right about everything in this post. This part especially sounds like something I have said so many times-
"They say we must care for the animals and the trees but it is okay to kill an unborn baby!"
I saw an article on Foxnews a few months back about where a woman was actually bragging (in my opinion she was bragging) about how she aborted her unborn baby and vowed to not have children to "reduce her carbon footprint" Another example-
I have read article after article in the last few days about how it is so inhumane that the horse at the KY derby was put down, it strikes me as ridiculous since the same people who are ranting about animal rights and human influence on the environment are pro-choice.
They have put human life at the bottom tier of importance. In my area the health department will come to a home and take your horses away if they think they look skinny, but CPS won't even bother investigating when a child is reported as being abused. I have seen this firsthand. And with terrible, fatal consequences.
I try to do my part, I use cloth diapers and wipes, I make my own cleaning product, I conserve electricity and fuel. I believe in caring for what God created for us. I agree, we are not secondary to creation!
Would you mind if I linked to your post on my blog? Have a blessed week, you are in my prayers. - At May 6, 2008 3:11 PM, MamaArcher said...

You won't hear anything negative concerning you from me Kristine! You and I share alot of the same opinions ;)
Honestly I don't think there has ever been anything on your blog that I haven't been in total agreeance with, lol. It isn't often I have the pleasure of "meeting" someone who shares so many of the same beliefs and opinions as I do, you have been such a blessing to me!

I agree. I used to feel very much at odds with the whole environment movement. But now, I see my part in it as good stewardship. Well said.

You know that we are in the same corner on these issues. Caring for creation is just the right thing to do and it is our responsibility to be good stewards of all that God has given us.
You are absolutely right, man is the crown of God's creation and we absolutely have the responsibility to protect each life, including the life of the unborn. - At May 7, 2008 10:57 AM, Jennifer in OR said...

Nicely said. Like you and others, my actions show that I take great care in being a good steward; probably more so than the outspsoken liberal environmentalists. However I refuse to celebrate Earth Day or any other movement that in my opinon is New Age/pagan/anti-God.

This is so true. I recently saw the picture of some sign on a beach that said it was a prosecutable crime to harm baby turtles who were hatching there -- a CRIME. I'm sure there was an abortion clinic not more than a few miles away. Just stunning.
I also recently read the story of a young lady who had her tubes tied (she was not yet 30 and had no children) because she thought it was better for the environment.
All this is to say...great post. Truly, as Christians we must care for the evironment, but not more than we care for human life.
Thanks for these thoughts! I don't often comment but I enjoy checking in on your blog.
