From High Point, North Carolina
Every once in a while you run across one of those "feel good stories". Those stories that show us just what a person can do when they really want it bad enough. And Ken Leonard has one of those stories.
In 2005, Ken Leonard left his job as a police officer in High Point, North Carolina to go to Iraq to work with a private security firm. In December of that year, Ken, along with five other men in his vehicle and six others in the vehicle behind him, was hit by a roadside bomb outside of Baghdad. "After the bomb went off, I knew exactly what had happened," Leonard recalled. "My feet got jarred, so I knew they were hit." While others in his vehicle were injured, he had received the worst of it. He had lost both his feet.
The vehicle behind them pushed Leonard's to a safer area. But flames were coming out of the air conditioning vents and they had to get out. Leonard crawled from the car and fell to the pavement. "That’s when I saw my feet," he said. "I could tell they were gone. They were still attached, but they were shredded."
On July 19, 2007, Ken Leonard went back to North Carolina to get his job back with the police force. To do that he needed to pass the Police Officers Physical Abilities Test, which, among other things, consisted of a 200-yard run to be finished in under 7 minutes, 20 seconds. And he did just that with 24 seconds to spare.
"Somebody told me one time they said, 'You know, what you've lost is just bone and muscle. You've still got heart, and you've still got, you know, what's up here,'" Leonard said, pointing to his head.
These brave men and women sacrifice so much in their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday. For that, I am proud to call them Hero.
We Should Not Only Mourn These Men And Women Who Died, We Should Also Thank God That Such People Lived

I ran across a quote today which was posted on Blog & Mablog and I wanted to share it today and to tell my husband how proud I am of him!
"The work of preaching is the highest and the greatest and the most glorious calling to which anyone can ever be called. If you want something in addition to that I would say without any hesitation that the most urgent need in the Christian Church today is true preaching" (Martyn Lloyd-Jones, Preaching and Preachers, p. 9).

"It is the duty of nations as well as men to own their dependence upon the overruling power of God, to confess their sins and transgressions in humble sorrow yet with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy and pardon, and to recognize the sublime truth, announced in the Holy Scriptures and proven by all history: that those nations only are blessed whose God is the Lord."
"All the good from the Saviour of the World is communicated through this Book; but for the Book we could not know right from wrong. All the things desirable to man are contained in it."

The other busy and rather hectic thing we did was yesterday. Silly me thought it would be safe to go to Office Max for the few school supplies we need for our school year. After all, the government schools started that day. They should have already had all of their shopping done! I didn't know that many people could fit into an Office Max!! It was unbelievable!
But in between these two busy days we had a restful and peaceful Lord's Day. I thank you Lord for giving us these days for Your worship and for our rest.

This country was built on a foundation of religious belief and conviction. In fact, there is no mention of "separation of church and state" in the U.S. Constitution or any other founding documents; however, the propaganda of many liberals today have people believing it is indeed found within. The phrase "separation church & state" is actually located in a letter written by
Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
Today, there has been so much effort to remove any semblance of religion from the public arena that it has indeed established a new state religion. Ironic isn't it? What is the new state religion that has been established you asked? Atheistic Humanism. What is a religion but a system of faith that governs how we relate to the divine and the world around us; how we think about life, how we act and live. It is a statement of our beliefs. Even the atheist has a faith; it is a belief that says there is no God. We can have nothing in this world apart from some sort of faith. We all will believe something. Trying to remove all views of God from the public eye has created another god in its place, that being man.
The founding fathers never intended for God to be absent from the public arena or even from government, many of their quotes support this. We all have the freedom to believe what we want...Christians have been forced to accept any and all other beliefs. Sometimes the non-religious (atheist) need to accommodate the religious.

Psalm 46:1-2
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea.
October 31, 1517 is the date when Martin Luther posted his 95 Thesis on the doors of the Cathedral of Wittenberg in Germany. This is perhaps the most important day in Protestant history. With this event the Protestant Reformation was officially born. A hymn that became a rallying cry of the Reformation was written by Martin Luther, the words are typed below.
1 2
A mighty fortress is our God,
A bulwark never failing;
Our helper He amid the flood
Of mortal ills prevailing.
For still our ancient foe
Doth seek to work us woe --
His craft and pow'r are great,
And armed with cruel hate,
On earth is not his equal.
Did we in our own strength confide
Our striving would be losing,
Were not the right Man on our side,
The Man of God's own choosing.
Dost ask who that may be?
Christ Jesus, it is He --
Lord Sabaoth His name,
From age to age the same --
And He must win the battle.
3
And tho this world, with devils filled,
Should threaten to undo us,
We will not fear, for God hath willed
His truth to triumph thru us.
The prince of darkness grim --
We tremble not for him;
His rage we can endure,
For lo! his doom is sure --
One little word shall fell him.
4
That word above all earthly pow'rs --
No thanks to them abideth;
The Spirit and the gifts are ours
Thru Him who with us sideth.
Let goods and kindred go,
This mortal life also;
The body they may kill:
God's truth abideth still --
His kingdom is forever.

And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.
Ephesians 6:4
Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.
According to scripture it is the responsibility of the parents (Fathers in particular) is to teach and to train their children up in Lord. Unfortunately, this is a responsibility that is often relinquished to the church. I have seen over and over again, in fact, I have even talked with several Christian parents, who simply drop their children off at Sunday school or some other program run by the church and hope for the best. There is nothing wrong with being involved in these types of programs. My family is also involved in these programs. Yet, problems arise when people forget where the responsibility lies. This is a trap that we must be diligent to avoid. For those teaching in these program, yes, they are responsible to teach diligently and accurately. But parents are the ones who hold the office of responsibility for their own children which the Lord has entrusted to them. I encourage you as a parent to take that responsibility very seriously. Ask your children what they talked about in Sunday school, make sure it was correct and applied accurately. Teach your children at all times with all diligence. Be an intentional parent for the glory of God.
