Wrecking A Driver's Ed. Car
My oldest took his driving test yesterday. A right of passage I suppose. At least they say he drives well enough to get his licence. He did pass with a score of 92! Not bad at all! Let me ask you this..... "Do you know of anyone who has wrecked a driver's ed. car and still passed with such flying colors?" Well, my son accomplished this yesterday! Technically, he didn't wreck the car, someone backed into him. The accident was not his fault and was totally unavoidable. (from his position anyway) A lady backed directly into him in a parking lot. She hit the driver's side door and made a decent sized dent and left the mirror hanging by a thread. My son was noticeably shaken by the whole event. I am thankful for this accident though. It was such an great life lesson for him to experience. He was able to learn what to do in case of an accident; call 911, track down the witnesses, exchange insurance information, etc. More importantly than that, he FELT what it is like to be in an accident and it will make him more cautious when he is driving. Most teenagers, especially boys, find this out too late and the accidents are much more severe and sometimes even devastating.

He was able to see how God protected him and has protected him in the past. Learn some life lessons, and still passed with a 92! Way to go, son!

Your poor son~ Getting into an accident (your fault or not) is always disturbing. I hope this doesn't scare him too much - it's a good lesson to learn, but poor guy! Have you driven with him, yet?

yes, he has been "practicing" driving with us for a few months now. He passed his test and now we just have to wait the required time for him to upgrade his permit to a provisional license and then wait to upgrade to a real one!

So true. I was backing out of a parking space on my first "solo" drive, and turned too sharply and nicked the car parked next to me. (no damage) I went home and cried and said I would never drive again and I still am careful about that and think about it over 20 years later.

Congrats to your son, first of all!

My sister did perfectly on her driving test the first time. Until they got back to the DMV parking lot and she hit a parked car.

She had to take it again.

I guess my son is not alone in having an accident in driver's ed. that may be a comfort to him. He is doing fine though, but it is a day he will not soon forget!

Congrats to your son! This is a step of my young adulthood I skipped...I still don't drive. Scares me to even think about it!
Good for him!

Heh, Heh. Kris, I'm glad that Jacob wasn't hurt. LOL, if he drives like dad or Uncle Mike did when we were younger, you have a lot of gray hairs headed your way! Just pray that he parks better than Oma did when she started and that it isn't passed on through the genes! Just busting your chops. Tell him I said good job. Love ya...Mike
