"The National Education Association believes that home schooling programs based on parental choice cannot provide the student with a comprehensive education experience. When home schooling occurs, students enrolled must meet all state curricular requirements.....etc. etc."There is an opportunity for homeschoolers to sign an online petition citing our stand against the NEA's resolution. It will make an even greater impact if you make a comment when signing the petition. The goal is for 10,000 homeschoolers to sign the petition, and currently a little over 5,000 have signed; please let all your homeschooling friends, neighbors, and support group members know about this petition and encourage them to sign it. I guess I'm not sure why that's so bad? I'd think it'd be important that all children, including homeschooled kids, are receiving a proper education.
I know this doesn't happen often, but I know quite a few homeschoolers, most of which are doing/did an awesome job. But one used it as an excuse not to send their children to school...they didn't actually learn anything while they were home...in fact their mother worked and she wasn't even at home to teach them. It seems like it would just prevent that sort of abuse. -

Those stories do not represent the majority of homeschool families. This really is a control issue and a money issue. Once certain curriculums are mandated by the government it takes away parental rights and religious rights.
