The Big Switch Out
Twice a year we must go through what I like to call "the big switch out". We pull out all of our plastic containers full of off season clothing and switch them with the clothing in the dressers. With many children this means alot of clothes. It usually takes an entire day, sometimes longer. When we are living in a place that has very distinct seasons it is much easier, we just do a total switch. Where we are now, it does not really get that cold but is not warm enough for cotton shorts, so we have to do a partial switch. Of course children tend to grow like weeds and the clothing gets passed down from child to child. We often have to see which clothing items fit each child during this particular season. This year I was able to weed out two garbage bags full of clothing that are no longer in good condition. I am so thankful for my children and how grateful they can be, they get excited when something gets passed down to them and even call it new! I am very blessed by this! There are occasions when we find "pockets", when there is a child that just does not seem to have anything to fit them during this particular season and their size. That is when new clothing is bought, of course if you are a boy (since we only have two and they are 5 years apart) or one of the older girls (with no one to hand things down to them) there is the privilege of new clothes more often. Well, we have just finished today the "big switch out" and I am tired! There was a bit of a fashion show as we tried to determine what fit each child. We are finally done at least for the next few months until it is time to do it all over again!Labels: Family, Quiverfull
