Here is a lesson I have learned in recent years. Maybe this is a no brainer for many of you but it has been a hurdle I have needed to jump. I really dislike making beds! I was never raised to make a bed. You don't live in your bedroom anyway, who will see it? I have learned along the years though that it really serves a practical purpose, at least for me. As any mother of many children (or just preschoolers) will tell you, sleep deprivation tends to come with the territory. I often walk through my day being tired and sometimes exhausted. I often will take a short nap if needed. I had come to notice though that I was sometimes taking naps not so much because I needed them but because I was avoiding doing something I didn't feel like doing and was simply being lazy. A strange thing began to happen though when I made my bed in the morning. I was less likely to lay down for a rest unless I was really in need of one. Why? It wasn't worth it to mess up my pretty bed just to be lazy or to avoid something! Just five minutes of my time in the morning could save me a up to a few hours in the afternoon. Not to mention the added benefit of feeling like you have a beautiful home. So go make your bed if you haven't already it will be five minutes well spent!

What a beautiful bed! Yep, all that you said is so true about how it changes our mindset, etc. I've been known to make my bed at 8 p.m., just to have the satisfaction of taking off the pillows and turning down the covers a few hours later!
I like what Flylady says about the bed being "the kitchen sink of the bedroom"...it's the main and first attraction, and its condition usually determines the state of the rest of the room. - At August 15, 2007 9:33 AM, MamaArcher said...

thank you for the compliment, it makes our room seem like a haven or get away when I am stressed. It would not be such a relaxing stress reliever if I went into the bedroom and it was a mess.
I do not know if I would put the effort in to make it as late as 8 pm...My energy would be gone by then..LOL - At August 15, 2007 10:37 PM, sallie said...

Your bed is very pretty! One of the new purchases for the new house that you talked about earlier? We were looking at some really pretty pieces for our bedroom last week that are new and really great wood (alder) but have an antique look to them. I kinda fell in love with the dressars but am waiting another few weeks before I go look again. They were at the only good wood furniture store in this town so a bit pricey but worth it... kinda like your custom dining table. Maybe the feeling will wear down and if not, I'll have the money by then..LOL..

actually our custom made table really was not all that expensive, you could not buy a table today for what we paid for ours years back. We needed an extra bed when we moved here, Jacob really needed one and a bigger one, so we gave him the one we were using, considering it was originally bought for him anyway. The new stuff is for us, we have never had a set for ourselves until now.
