Preparations for the Schoolyear
Well, it is that time again. A little later this year than I would like but I am once again in the midst of buying curriculum. In the following week or two, boxes will be arriving at my door. There will be excitement and then sighs. Excitement over the new books that have come and then sighs when the children realize they have to go through all of those books! If you are interested in some of the curriculum we are using this year look HERE to see a list of things on our shelf.
We just signed our oldest up for driver's education last night. I am thinking that the fear people joke about when teenagers receive their license is in fact not about their driving abilities (well maybe sometimes), I think it is more about the fact that they realizing how quickly time flies! It seems only a few days ago that he was a sweet toddling little one and only yesterday that he was a cute little 10 year old. Now he is a handsome, close to grown young man. It has made me reflect on these past 16 years. They have flown by so quickly and I know that the other children are growing up just as quickly. This year, I am going to try even harder to focus on the children and try to enjoy every moment as it passes.
Awana starts next week and I need to get back in touch with that piano teacher. I need to have our speech therapy appoints set and then take a deep breath before we jump into full swing of the school year!
Are you ready? What are your preparations looking like for the homeschool year?

Ready? What's that?! LOL!! I am JUST NOW starting to go through the school shelves and take down last year's stuff. Then my rubbermaid totes full of "Homeschool Stuff I Don't Want To Sell Yet" need to be hauled up from the basement so that I can pull everything out and decide what we can use this year. Then will come the list of "Things To Buy" and "Things To Sell" (which probably won't sell since everybody else has already bought their stuff for the year!!). Then of course I will actually have to figure out WHERE to list the Things To Sell, and where to BUY the Things To Buy! ........

As you can see, I am far from ready!! The plan is to start school 9/10, but we'll see ...

My plan is to start the Tuesday after Labor Day (the 4th). Now that we know where we will be and which state rules we have to follow, we've got our school orders ready to go this week and hopefully it all arrives in time. Thankfully we have a stack of supplies like pencils, paper, notebooks, etc left over from last year so no need to pick any of that up.

We are trying to decide whether we want to get back into piano for one year or not. Jesse is working on guitar, Noah on drums, Caleb singing in choir at church, and Victoria is just practicing more and more on the piano and keyboard both at home. She spent the better part of the morning today transcribing a Bach piece and then playing it all afternoon. It helps her when she writes it down so I bought her some sheet music notepads. I'm not even sure there is an opening with her old teacher anymore and I guess timing will be a factor too for scheduling.

As for driving, Victoria tried to drive in my parents long circular driveway back in June and she was scared to death. We will defintely be waiting a while on that :-)
